Community giving is helping to transform the lives of Redland patients, with more than half-million dollars worth of medical equipment delivered to Mater Private Hospital Redland in the past year.
The investment in enhanced care is thanks to the generosity of Mater donors and supports – who will have the chance to triple their support on Mater’s annual Giving Day on June 25.
Every dollar donated to Mater Foundation on Giving Day will be tripled by Mater’s generous matching partners, delivering extra bang for every buck donated by the public.
A key new piece of equipment making a difference for Redland patients is a $180,000 neurotable to support spinal surgery, which has been used by dozens of patients since its delivery at the Weippin Street facility in December.
Mater Private Hospital Redland General Manager Chris Junge said the neurotable ensured that Redland patients could undergo spinal surgery locally, instead of having to travel into Brisbane.
“Mater receives incredible support from Queenslanders each year and their support makes a life-changing difference to the care we provide here in the Redlands,” Mr Junge said.
“In the last five years almost $5 million has been invested in new equipment and services in our hospital by Mater Foundation.

“The neurotable is one the newest items we have received and it’s already been well-used by neurosurgeon Dr Brendan Davis and his patients.
“It makes it possible for Mater Redland to perform more procedures such as lumbar decompressions and microdiscectomies to restore the spinal health of patients.
“It’s helped a lot of older people with painful back problems, but also younger tradies who have suffered spinal issues because of their work.
“It’s just one example of how Giving Day is helping Redland patients live healthier lives.”
Other items currently being funded by Mater Foundation at Mater Private Hospital Redland include new urology scopes, trays for ophthalmology surgery, day surgery beds and prostate imaging equipment.
Mater Foundation Chief Executive Andrew Thomas is urging Redlands residents to support this year’s Giving Day by making a donation up until 25 June.
“Mater Giving Day is the day the community can give to make good things happen,” Mr Thomas said.
“This special day unites Mater staff, patients, loved ones and supporters with gratitude to help deliver life-saving medical equipment, research, education and healthcare.”
