Mitigating modern slavery

Mater takes its ethical and sustainable responsibilities seriously.

With modern slavery impacting millions of people around the world, Mater is committed to ensuring that its processes for the supply of goods and services align with its vision to honour and promote the dignity of human life.

As part of the Catholic healthcare sector, Mater strives to make a positive difference beyond compliance, and works closely with the Australian Catholic Anti-Slavery Network to address widening inequality around the world. Mater's fourth Modern Slavery Statement reports on the period from January to December 2023.

With the latest Global Estimates of Modern Slavery revealing an increase from 10 million people in 2016 to 50 million in 2022, it is important that Mater continues to work closely with its suppliers and contractors to ensure our standards and values are upheld.

We remain resolute in our commitment to drive greater awareness of our policies and corporate objectives, and expect our people, suppliers, contractors and service partners to share our values and principles.

Suppliers

Mater takes its responsibility to tackling modern slavery seriously.  We are doing this by reviewing our supply chain operations to ensure all our suppliers comply with our Supplier Code of Conduct and by raising awareness among our people, especially those on the frontline, to recognise the signs and provide appropriate support to people at risk.

Mater has a zero tolerance position towards modern slavery.
