About the service
Mater Mothers' Centre for Maternal Fetal Medicine provides expert diagnosis and management of complex obstetric cases for mothers and their unborn baby who have existing or potential high risk medical concerns.
A comprehensive range of antenatal screening, diagnostic and therapeutic services are available upon referral. These include:
- Multidisciplinary counselling for pregnancy and fetal complications
- First trimester ultrasound screening
- Tertiary level ultrasound
- Fetal echocardiography
- Invasive pre-natal testing—amniocentesis, chorionic villus sampling, fetal blood sampling
- Intrauterine fetal transfusions
- Intrauterine shunting procedures
- Fetoscopic surgery including laser ablation for Twin-to-Twin Transfusion Syndrome and FETO for congenital diaphragmatic hernia
- Open maternal fetal surgery for spina bifida
- EXIT procedure for delivery
- Telehealth ultrasound and consultation
Pre-pregnancy counselling is provided for high-risk patients.
