At Mater Mothers, we understand that for some parents the birth experience may have caused distress or concern about your emotional or physical recovery.

We are here to support and assist you to find the services you need to heal.
Here are some resources that may be able to support you during this time:
Mater Mothers’ Parenting Support Centre
Mater Mothers’ Parenting Support Centre offers early parenting support and guidance to mothers and babies up to six months after birth.
Our experienced team of GPs, child health nurses, lactation consultants, and allied health clinicians are available to support you through your parenting journey and provide help for issues including:
- breastfeeding and feeding
- sleep and settling
- emotional wellbeing
- infant interactions, and
- adjusting to your new role as a parent/caregiver.
Medical debrief about your birth can be accessed in our postnatal clinic. Referrals can be made while you are in hospital, from your local GP, or from the GPs in the Parenting Support Centre.
Families and women with babies born at Mater Mothers’ Hospitals across Queensland may access the service at no out of pocket expense. Self-referrals are welcome.
Mater Health and Wellness Clinic for allied health support
The Mater Mothers’ Physiotherapy team are here to support you throughout your entire pregnancy journey from pregnancy to birth and beyond. If you have a vaginal or C-section birth they can provide:
- Education and strategies to assist you in your recovery
- Pelvic floor education and recovery support advice
- Abdominal wall assessment.
Australasian Birth Trauma Association
The ABTA is a charity dedicated to better prevention and treatment of birth-related trauma.
ABTA provides peer-to-peer support through resources and support services.
Centre of Perinatal Excellence
Centre of Perinatal Excellence (COPE) is a not-for-profit organisation devoted to reducing the impacts of emotional and mental health problems in the pre and postnatal periods.
COPE provides information and help in:
- Adjusting to parenthood
- Looking after yourself and
- Postnatal mental health conditions – where and when to seek help.
Gidget Foundation
Gidget Foundation Australia is a not-for-profit organisation that exists to support the emotional wellbeing of expectant and new parents to ensure they receive timely, appropriate and specialist care.
Gidget offer:
