Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I have my baby at Mater Mothers’ Private Rockhampton?

When you choose to have your baby at Mater Mothers’ Private Rockhampton, you will have access to comprehensive specialist care in a compassionate, nurturing environment as well as state-of-the art maternity facilities; so you can be rest assured that you and your family will receive world class personalised care before, during and after your baby is born.

Choosing your own obstetrician to manage your private maternity care

One of the many benefits of private maternity care is the ability to choose your own specialist obstetrician to manage your pregnancy. This includes antenatal appointments, care during labour and delivery as well as postnatal follow up appointments.

Our team of experienced health professionals will work closely with your obstetrician throughout your pregnancy and after your baby arrives.

Understanding your private health insurance

Prior to booking into hospital, we recommend that you speak to your private health insurance provider so that you are fully aware of your entitlements, including neonatal special or intensive care, and whether you will be required to cover an excess or co-payment.

Understanding other potential out of pocket (Gap) payments

To understand what other out of pocket (gap) expenses may be involved with having your baby, we recommend talking to your doctor, to your health fund, and of course to the hospital.

If you are unsure exactly what to ask, we suggest using this checklist. We’ve listed a series of useful questions to ask those involved in your care during pregnancy and birth, so you have a much clearer idea of what to expect.

Information for self-insured patients

If you are a self-insured patient (paying for your hospitalisation yourself), you will need to contact Mater Mothers’ Private Rockhampton to discuss costs and obtain a quote*. Our team are available to discuss costs with you over the phone. Please call us on 07 4931 3380.

*Cost estimates are based on the information available at the time and are subject to change if any aspect of your stay changes due to medical necessity (e.g. if complications arise).
