Welcome to Mater

Gold Coast Private Hospital has been a leading healthcare provider for the Coast since 2016. We understand the recent period of uncertainty has been challenging, and many staff are looking for clarity about the future.

Mater has now entered into a sales agreement to acquire the hospital—marking an important step toward long‑term stability and strengthening access to high‑quality, for‑purpose care on the Gold Coast. This transition is not about replacing what already works. It’s about bringing together the strengths of Gold Coast Private Hospital and Mater through mutual learning, not imposition.

Your hospital’s modern, high‑performing facility will join Mater’s 120‑year legacy of Mission‑led, compassionate care at a time of significant growth across Queensland. Our priority is a safe, respectful transition, with a target date of 1 August 2026 (subject to approvals).

Support and more information

Together, we’re building a strong future for healthcare on the Gold Coast.

We are delighted to welcome you to Mater as Gold Coast Private Hospital becomes part of our statewide network of more than 10,000 dedicated, compassionate, and highly skilled people who share a deep commitment to exceptional care.

Mater’s story began with a small 20‑bed hospital on Brisbane’s North Quay, where a tradition of care and compassion first took root. From those humble beginnings, Mater has grown into a statewide group of hospitals and health services supporting communities across Queensland—including now, the Gold Coast.

Our founders, the Sisters of Mercy, established the Mission that continues to guide us today: to respond to the needs of the sick and vulnerable with dignity, respect, and excellence. Their legacy remains at the heart of everything we do.

Over the past century, Mater has become Queensland’s largest not‑for‑profit Catholic hospital and healthcare provider, with services spanning Townsville, Mackay, Rockhampton, Bundaberg, Redlands, Springfield, South Brisbane and now the Gold Coast. We also deliver care directly into homes and communities, ensuring support reaches people wherever they need it.

Our frontline services are strengthened by Mater’s world‑leading research institute, our nationally accredited education and training organisation, and our high‑performing foundation. Together, these teams bring deep expertise to enhance patient care, improve services, and support the wellbeing of the communities we serve.

As you join Mater, you become part of a legacy that spans generations—and a future filled with opportunity. We are united by a shared purpose: to empower Queenslanders, including those on the Gold Coast, to lead healthier lives.

Thank you for the commitment and skill you bring to your work each day. We look forward to the contributions you will make as part of our Mission.

You could also package up to $2,500 per year for meals and entertainment. Contact SmartSalary at 1300 476 278 or visit their website at https://smartsalary.com.au/

All clinical and non-clinical Mater staff, accredited practitioners and volunteers are required to wear their Mater identification at all times. This identification card includes a photo, full name and position to grant the required security access for your position.

Please do not lend any person, including other staff members your Mater ID badge under any circumstance. This is to ensure the safety of all our Mater People, visitors and patients.

How do I get it?

Processing identification badges is dependent on each facility. We’ll provide additional guidance on how to get your ID badge closer to the time.

How does salary packaging affect my take‑home pay?

Salary packaging lets you pay for certain everyday expenses using pre‑tax income, which reduces your taxable salary and increases the amount you keep each pay cycle.

With Smart Salary, you can:

  • Package up to $15,900 per year on eligible living expenses to lower your taxable income and boost your take‑home pay
  • Use pre‑tax dollars for mortgage or rent, groceries, and general living costs
  • Salary package a car through a novated lease, giving you a simple and cost‑effective way to buy and run a vehicle
  • Save on dining out, entertainment, and travel, helping you enjoy more of what matters

You can estimate your potential savings using the Smart Salary calculator: smart.com.au/salary-packaging-calculator/

If you’d like help getting started, email AskHR.GoldCoast@mater.org.au to learn how salary packaging can work for you.
