A Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland, Gerard’s association with the health and aged care ministries of the Sisters of Mercy commenced with his appointment to the General Administrative Committee of the Mater in Rockhampton in 1991. He was later appointed to the then Health Services Board of the Rockhampton Congregation of the Sisters of Mercy in 1994 and he served as Chairman of that Board for five years from 1995 to 2000. When Mercy Health and Aged Care Central Queensland Limited (MH&ACCQL) was incorporated as a separate entity in 2001, Gerard continued as a Director on the MH&ACCQL Board.  He is currently a member of the Mater Misericordiae Limited Board and a member of the Major Projects and Infrastructure committee.

Gerard has been with Rees R & Sydney Jones Solicitors, Rockhampton all of his working life and until January 2020 had been a partner of that firm for more than 36 years. He is highly respected in both the legal and wider community and currently consults to Rees R & Sydney Jones Solicitors.
